When you leave your country of origin, the passport takes on a particularly important role; it conditions not only your freedom of movement, but also everything that involves your legal rights and social benefits. It becomes a precious object, with a symbolic value that outweighs its economic value. It creates an almost vital attachment and consequently, when in possession, changes the way one sees and uses it as opposed to other objects that share its aesthetic features. The title “Castelli dI Carta” refers to a simple game that consists of constructing a delicate structure made of actual molds of my own passport made in marble dust with brass pigment silk screened writing, playing on the idea of value, worth, and importance. Elements such as the reproducibility of the passport, the unstable nature of the structure and the choice in materials create a dialogue between value, symbolic quality, and irony.

Quando si passa permanentemente un confine, il passaporto acquisisce una
valenza peculiare: condiziona qualsiasi spostamento, ogni attività ufficiale.
Si trasforma per questo ed altro, in un oggetto di valore, prezioso esulando dal
prezzo e simbolicamente sviluppa un attaccamento vitale.
Diviene porta d’accesso alla possibilità.
“Castelli di Carta” rimanda ad un gioco elementare: ho costruito con calchi in
polvere di marmo del mio passaporto una struttura dall’apparenza poco stabile,
giocando sul senso di valore e significatività.
Il dualismo proposto vuole frapporre la preziosità del passaporto con la
riproducibilità, la natura istabile ed i materiali impiegati dell’opera, creando un
dialogo tra valore, qualità simbolica e leggerezza.
