The series “Ante-Nati” consists of books cut and re-shaped using an ancient Iranian method of carving on wood named Monabbat Kari which traditionally was used to decorate wood and metal objects by hand cutting and inlaying them with floral and geometric patterns and elements. The books in question represent pillars of western literature; in fact the intention behind the piece is centered on the concept of culture used as literal raw material rather than an untouchable principle. The goal is to generate new cultural roots through the use and collection of a series of elements that come from different territories. The piece strives to bypass the barriers of traditional categories regarding western and eastern archetypes by creating a new idea of culture which no longer finds its roots in the past, but extends them to the present and eventual future. The title “Ante-Nati”, which means born forward, plays with this temporal concept: an element that although originally comes from the past, it has the capacity to draw and model the future. Phenomenons like globalization, mass immigration, the digital flow of information on a global scale, and the speed with which they grow have created a true need to rethink our classic categorization of Western/Eastern culture. This concept aims at changing the idea that cultural roots are planted, static, and depend on a specific territory but are progressive, dynamic, and are constantly closing the gaps between different cultures with the goal of creating a new symbolic shared domain.

La serie “Ante-Nati” consiste nella relizzazione di libri utilizzando la tecnica di “Monabbat Kari”, un metodo orientale che consente di intagliare decorazioni intricate ispirate a pattern floreali o geometrici. I libri utilizzati, invece, rappresentano alcuni testi pilastro della cultura occidentale, che divengono nell’opera un materiale ‘‘curdo’’ e non inviolabile.
L’intento é la creazione di una nuova cultura che raccolga elementi provenienti da territori diversi, in particolare vi è un tentativo di superamento di quelle barriere che hanno portato ad una categorizzazione mutualmente esclusiva occidentale vs orientale del retaggio. Fenomeni come la globalizzazione e la migrazione di massa, soprattutto in virtù della velocità esponenziale con cui evolvono, hanno creato una necessità di revisione del dominio della cultura occidentale. Questa ‘‘nuova cultura’’ non ha radici in un passato compiuto, ma le affonda nel presente e nel futuro in divenire: “Ante-Nati”, letteralmente ‘‘nato avanti’’, gioca con questo elemento temporale; un qualcosa che pur provenendo dal passato,se rielaborato può ridisegnare il futuro, attraverso un progressivo avanzamento ed avvicinamento tra diverse culture, con lo scopo di creare un terzo spazio.
